Category Program

Cat 1 Voice and low speed data
Cat 1 cable is intended for analog and digital and some low speed data applications.   These cables meet the basic requirements defined by UL 444 and ICEA S-80-576.
Cat 2 Data
Cat 2 cable performance requirements are similar to those for type 3 cable (multipair communication cable) of the IBM Cabling System Technical Interface Specification (GA27-3773-1).  Cat 2 cable is intended for voice and intermediate speed data applications up to and including 4 MBPS.
Cat 3 Cat 3 data cable complies with the transmission requirements in the Electronic Industries Association/Telecommunication Industry Association (EIA/TIA) 568 Commercial Building Telecommunications Wiring Standard for Horizontal Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) Cable and with the requirements for Category 3 cable in the EIA/TIA Technical Systems Bulletin TSB-36.  It is intended for high speed LAN applications up to and including 16 MBPS.  In addition to Cat 1 and 2 applications this cable can also be used for 10 Base T, OPEN DEConnect, 3-COM, PROTEON, 4 MBPS token ring and CHIPCOM systems.
Cat 4 Cat 4 cable complies with the requirements in the proposed National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Standard for Low-Loss Premises Telecommunications Cable.  Cat 4 requirements are the same as Category 4 requirements of the Electronics Industy Association/Telecommunication Industry Association (EIA/TIA) Technical Systems Bulletin TSB-36.  This cable is intended for high speed LAN applications up to and including 20 MBPS.
Cat 5 Cat 5 cable complies with the requiremetns in the proposed National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Standrd for Low-Loss Premises Telecommunications Cable.  Cat 5 requirements are the same as Category 5 requirements for the Electonics Industry Association/Telecommunication Industry Association (EIA/TIA) Technical Systems Bulleitn TSB-36.  This cable is intended for high speed LAN applications up to and including 100 MBPS.
